I’ve been looking for pictures I took a few years ago during a trip my friend and I took in his old Raider. They’re one of the vehicles I periodically search for, thanks to this one. It’s what I learned standard on, during this trip actually. It was a great little 4x4, if I can’t find a good one I might have to try and resurrect his, which suffered the fate of a cracked cylinder head. Because 4G54. I think it’s sitting on a farm, as it has been for 2 years or so.

After this trip, the clutch went pretty quickly. the original from 1989 was not a fan of the Coquihala, and neither was the cooling system.

Which part of BC were these pictures taken in? They’re breathtaking.

Well thanks! Most were at either Chataway Lake or Roscoe Lake, near Nicola and Merrit. A couple are at Golden Ears Park near Maple Ridge.

Chataway Lake and Roscoe Lake are pretty much just down the connector from me. I’ll have to check them out sometime.

Nice! I try to go to Chataway once a year, but wasn’t able to this year unfortunately. There’s a little “resort” that’s mostly a fishing and quietness getaway with cabins, camping spaces, and it’s family run. Perfect if you like log cabins, wood stoves, and being nearly as far removed from city life as possible for a while. Roscoe is one of those free user maintained wilderness sites, it does have outhouses and picnic tables though.

Some pics from last time I was up there

Ooh top secret new car. Will there be a reveal? Does this mean you don’t want the Immortal Blazer anymore?

Great oppo indeed. It looks better than the one I found in a euro graveyard and want to pull out. The beige paint looks OK and it still has the spare on the gate. S’next to an Eagle wagon, but I still want the raider.

Anyway you should resurrect it. I just learned 4G63's swap in, which gives me hope, but not for the cooling system...

Well that’s worth looking into.....I also wonder how hard it would be to get the JDM 2500 or 2800 turbo diesel in it.

Alternately, I just found this

Shame about being an auto, but it looks great otherwise. I can’t imagine how slow it would be with that transmission though...

I love those. I actually thought about getting the Mitsubishi and really upgrading everything, get the diesel to swap in. Never seen one with ARB bumpers etc. But space is limited.

Yeah I’m seriously considering it, I just have zero parking currently.... Once I sort out my parking situation, or my Blazer inevitably bites the dust, a new vehicle will make an appearance, hopefully this one. Thanks! I love being in BC, of all the places I’ve seen in Canada, it has the most concentrated beauty, in my opinion.

I had an ‘85 Montero 2 door just like yours. I put in a John Baker upgraded suspension. Rear Limited Slip diff. That truck could go tons of places. Took it out to the southern California desert. I loved that vehicle.

The 2.6l 4 cyl eats head gaskets. Either find a motor to swap with it, or find the V6.

Yeah they don’t seem to get too much love in north america. In Vancouver I see tons of the second gens though, apparently they have a pretty brilliant 4WD system, and are cheap to import.

I still prefer the look of the first gens

It was my friends, not mine, I may try and claim it if he lets it sit much longer though.... That sounds awesome though. If I got one, one of those options would probably be the plan
